Things to do to Prevent Straining Your Eyes at Work
Wednesday, January 9th, 2008We can do a lot of things to care for our eyes. We can use sunglasses to protect them from the harmful heat and brightness of the sun. When we watch TV, we can sit about two to three meters from the television to make sure that you don’t strain your eyes too much.
However, there are several technologies utilized to make work easy that sometimes sacrifices the condition of our eyes. In the office we use computers to work on piles of paperwork for just eight hours instead of working on that particular task for the whole week. Work can be accomplished faster but the bad thing about this is that it makes us concentrate too much in front of the monitor, thus strains our eyes more.
Although you are at work and you are supposed to be productive during office hours, you should still make sure that you care for and protect your eyes or else, you could have some vision problems. Remember that having problematic eyesight could affect your work and even your entire living.
Here are three things you could do to minimize straining your eyes at work:
Use eyeglasses instead of contact lenses – when we concentrate, we blink three times less than we normally do. If this is the case, your eyes will dry up faster thus will hurt your eyes when you wear contact lenses.
Check the position of your workplace – irrelevant light that may come from a window, fluorescent light, etc can strain the eyes. Pick a workplace with minimal extraneous light or use curtains to control light in your office room. Also, position your monitor in a manner that’s comfortable with you.
Relax when you’re tired –don’t abuse your eyes. Relax like every twenty minutes. Stare at colored, preferably green objects to refresh the eyes. Also try to look at things with distance of up to 20 meters to get relaxed.
