When do we Need to Call the Dentist?

Monday, June 9th, 2008

There are several things that we can do to minimize oral health problems. The most common among them are brushing at least two to three times a day and using floss to reach the areas that your toothbrush cannot clean to avoid cavities and other oral problems. Replacing your toothbrush after 3 to 4 months of use must also be observed because worn-out bristles will no longer be effective in removing dirt in your teeth making it more prone to decay.

These are just the simplest things we know ever since we were kids. We have our own ways to take care of our teeth but how can we say it’s time to call the dentist for help?

The following are some of the signs and symptoms which may need help from a dentist:

  • Swollen gums – gums turn red and have gone tender
  • Bleeding gums – when your gums bleed every time you brush or floss your teeth. This could be a sign of gingivitis
  • Pus around your teeth when you apply pressure on your gums which could be a sign of infection
  • You always taste something bad in your mouth even though you just brushed or gargled with mouthwash
  • Your teeth and gums suffer from pain when you eat hot or cold food.
  • You got loose teeth
